“…. Her voice, which draws comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Billie Holliday and Amy Winehouse, is as gravelly as it is sweet, as voluminous as it is intimate and as brawny as it is delicate.”
– James Courtney (San Antonio Current)
Watching Alyson Alonzo sing is a spiritual experience. A Soul, Jazz, and R&B singer from the south side of San Antonio, Alonzo’s style rings true to the deep roots of the San Antonio Soul scene. Active since 2008, the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist has created waves for over a decade with her alternative R&B sounds. Alyson Alonzo is an out and proud queer recording artist living and working in San Antonio. Her own personal brand of electronic R&B leaves audiences stunned, captivated, and wanting more. She has been producing her own music in her own bedroom since the emergence of MySpace and has since been one of the hardest working independent musicians.
She has shared various show and festival line-ups with bands like Girl in a Coma, Piñata Protest, Best Coast, The Octopus Project, Cake, The Drums, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, and many more. She also supports other local, national, and international LGBTQ+ musicians by hosting a radio show that goes by the name of “Queervibes” where she carefully curates a playlist of LGBTQ+ recording artists from all around the globe. Queervibes is on every Sunday on Trinity University’s station KRTU 91.7FM.
