Hiplet Ballerinas has been cancelled

Updated: Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.

Dear Friend of the Carver,

I hope this finds you and your loved ones healthy and happy in the New Year.

While we remain hopeful that 2021 will see a return of live performances, I am writing to share that due to the rapid escalation of local COVID-19 numbers and the current COVID-19 health status being in the severe category, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all live events at the Carver for the month of January 2021. Unfortunately, this includes the much-anticipated January 23rd performance with Hiplet Ballerinas.

While we are already in discussions with Hiplet Ballerina’s management to reschedule the engagement in the 2021-2022 season, we think the most prudent course of action at this time is to refund all tickets for this performance. Ticketholders can obtain refunds at points-of-purchase.

While no decision has been made at this point to cancel or postpone events further out, we are conferring with local and governmental authorities for guidance on the plausibility of events in the month of February. In the coming days, we will have more certainty and will be able to advise you of upcoming events.

I am sure you share our disappointment, but we appreciate your understanding as we continue to hold the well-being of you, our staff and artists as our top priority. We are almost there! We all need to only hang on a bit longer and continue to do our part. With continued diligence, coupled with the vaccine roll-out, we will be together again soon. Until then, please take care and remain safe.

Remember, we are stronger together!

Cassandra Parker-Nowicki
Executive Director

*** Hiplet Ballerinas was originally scheduled for March 20, 2020. However, the performance had to be rescheduled due to the global pandemic. Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored for the new date with no further action required at this time. Inquiries regarding refunds should be directed to the point on purchase.

Hiplet Ballerinas

“Hiplet Ballerinas make a point to broaden the horizons of ballet in more ways than one.”
– Inlander

Hiplet™ fuses classical pointe technique with African, Latin, Hip-Hop and urban dance styles that are rooted in communities of color. It was specifically designed to make ballet accessible to all, by mixing it with current popular songs that will be familiar to audiences who don’t normally attend ballet performances. Performances may incorporate the rhythms of African drums with Tchaikovsky, arabesques and beat-boxing or even Tango en pointe – all while showcasing Hiplet’s trademark sass, hip movements, and struts against popular music audiences will recognize from Black Violin to Beyoncé and Prince.

After features on Good Morning America, Buzzfeed, and The Huffington Post the new art form went viral in spring 2016 and has now amassed over a BILLION views. Since then partnerships with Mercedes Benz, Vogue’s Anna Wintour, New York and Paris Fashion Week, W Magazine, Versace, and Old Navy to name a few, have culminated in an incredible worldwide demand for a live show featuring Homer Bryant’s innovative technique. Featuring 10 dancers, CMDC is excited to partner with ECE Touring to bring its touring show to audiences everywhere.
