Community Devised Theatre Centering San Antonio Voices

“Andrea Assaf’s poetry moves like an instrument of memory amidst a cast of truly extraordinary music and a visual production designed to remind us how connected we are, even in isolation.”
– Heather Raffo

The Carver Community Cultural Center is excited to present the premiere of a new, community co-created theatre work, Eleven Reflections: San Antonio. This performance is co-produced with Art2Action, Inc. as the culmination of a multi-year residency with artist and founder Andrea Assaf, an award-winning Lebanese American poet, actor, theatre director, and cultural organizer. As part of Art2Action’s larger initiative, Eleven Reflections on the Nation (supported in part by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Arts “Building Bridges” program), the Carver’s presentation makes San Antonio the first city in the new national series.

Eleven Reflections: San Antonio builds on and evolves from Assaf’s previous work, Eleven Reflections on September, a multi-media performance piece based on a series of Assaf’s poems which exam the Middle Eastern American experience in the post-9/11 era.  Working in collaboration with San Antonio artists of various genres and other residents, Assaf will direct the local ensemble in sharing their personal experiences and examining the wide-reaching impact and aftermath of 9/11 as we approach the 20th anniversary of the tragedy.
