Fusing together elements of soul, R&B, Americana & Tejano, Chavela is an absolute powerhouse of a band that can’t be ignored. Formed in 2018, by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Isa Paillao, Chavela has mesmerized local audiences, all while gaining a fiery and fanatical following. The band’s name “Chavela” is derived from the Spanish moniker for frontwoman Isa, who is a singular force on stage. She grew up listening to a wide array of fervent female vocalists, ranging from Linda Ronstadt to Norah Jones, and her band’s overall vibe extracts inspiration from 1950s – 70s soul music. Paillao’s velvety, yet stunning voice is complimented by her heartfelt lyricism and the striking sounds of the band. Through their music, they hope to revive the vintage soul scene of days past, which San Antonio made famous. Chavela has previously shared the stage with such notable performers as Nico Play, Angel White, and Baldemar.
