The top-notch collection of musicians and singers, known as Eddie and The Valiants, began taking shape in the spring of 2017, helmed by bandleader Eduardo “DJ Plata” Hernandez, founding member of SunDay and Sexto Sol. Hernandez dreamed of taking modern audiences on a trip back in time to the days of a singular sound that originated in the 1960s on the Westside of San Antonio. The ensemble is emblematic of the genre sometimes referred to as “That Westside Sound” or simply, South Texas Soul.

Decked out in flashy Rat-Pack-esque flair, Eddie and The Valiants have cultivated an appreciation for the artistry and history of ‘50’s & ‘60s- era bands. They pay tribute to the echoes of Sunny & The Sunliners, The Royal Jesters, and The Commands. The band’s live performances, one of which provided direct support to Durand Jones & The Indications, transmit an irresistible wave of retro cool and consistently garner considerable buzz.

soulful Westside San Antonio 60s & 70s sounds

“There are many bands on the scene, internationally, nationally, and locally pulling inspiration from classic soul and doo-wop. In San Antonio, there’s only one Westside sound and there is only one Eddie & The Valiants.”

– JJ Lopez (KRTU 91.7FM Gen. Manager)
