“Solidarity Through Sounds: Black and Brown Musical Overlap in Texas” aims to highlight the ways Black and Brown musical cultures have overlapped and offer avenues towards solidarity and unity. This gathering seeks to push conversations forward and amplify voices in the face of ongoing struggles for justice and equality. The event will feature a roundtable discussion with UTSA African American Studies and Mexican American Studies faculty Mario Salas, Marco Cervantes, Marc Perry, Sylvia Mendoza; San Antonio Poet Laureate Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson; emcee and poet Charles Peters, and DJ/producer community advocate Gracie Chávez. The event will conclude with live music from Gracie Chávez, Third Root and Vocab. The event is free of charge, and there will be free snacks and refreshments provided by Pico De Gallo during reception.
