SUMMARY:Camp Founder Girls 100 Year Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:In 1924 a visionary woman by the name of Mattie Landry dreamed of a camp in which Black girls from her home church could explore nature and grow as young leaders in their San Antonio community. After facing immense discrimination and rejection from camps around central Texas\, she decided to bring to life a camp of her own that could be a safe space for Black girls later to be known as “Camp Founder Girls.” \nFor over 40+ years\, Camp Founder Girls connected hundreds of girls from San Antonio to the magic of summer camp. Unfortunately following her passing in the 1960’s\, the camp ceased operations. \nIn the summer of 2019\, Black Outside\, Inc. proudly revived Camp Founder Girls bringing this powerful history back to life. In its first summer\, Camp Founder Girls served 34 campers and today serves 160+ campers each summer from around the United States and stands as one of the few Black-founded summer camps in the entire country. \nLast summer Camp Founder Girls was honored to be featured in a BETHer Film: Founder Girls. \nJoin us in celebrating Camp Founder Girls as we host an exclusive screening of the film\, a panel discussion with CFG leadership\, campers\, and the director\, and of course some surprise Camp activities and giveaways. \n**Masks are encouraged for the event and extras will be provided by the CFG Team \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/camp-founder-girls-100-year-anniversary-celebration-tickets-785695595677?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
