Riveting Music & Movement

Blackbird, Fly explores some of the biggest questions of our time. Through this piece, Marc Bamuthi Joseph and DBR, both sons of Haitian immigrants, reveal their life stories in search of their identity and role models and delve into universal themes of immigration, tolerance and inclusion. This introspective, uplifting piece beautifully weaves movement, music and spoken word into a richly layered multi-sensory evening.

Marc Bamuthi Joseph is a pillar of American performance, arts education, and artistic curation. Joseph has written and performed in a series of poetically- based works; many touring worldwide. His essays have been published in various education journals and publishing companies. DBR, Daniel Bernard Roumain is a composer and performer whose works span more than two decades, and have been commissioned by venerable artists and institutions worldwide. “About as omnivorous as a contemporary artist gets” (New York Times), DBR is perhaps the only composer whose collaborations transverse the worlds of Philip Glass, Bill T. Jones, Savion Glover, and Lady Gaga.
