Friday, November 16, 2007 8PM $26 Salsamba brings more than its share to the table. Their knowledge of the jazz idiom and repertoire puts them far above other Latin groups with very little chordal knowledge who just bang away on endless percussion montunas. The program will feature various Latin rhythm styles including mambo, cha-cha, samba, bolero, bossa nova, six-eight and calypso. Salsamba is a Latin jazz quintet with a recipe for musical excitement which blends the traditions of American jazz with the spicy rhythms of Cuba, Brazil, and the Caribbean. The result is tasty music which delights the listener with its originality. The group has been the opening act for Tito Puente, John Scofield and Stanley Jordan. Based in Pittsburgh, Salsamba performs at clubs, festivals and colleges throughout the United States. For more information visit www.salsamba.com.
